While London and NYC struggle with extreme wage compression, Mumbai is seeing a “Flight to Quality” where Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are aggressively outbidding traditional IT outsourcing firms for top-tier talent.

  • The “Agentic AI” Premium: Mumbai is currently experiencing a massive supply-demand gap (estimated at ~50%) for AI/ML specialists. This has pushed Senior AI Engineer medians to ₹3,362,000 (£27,400). While this looks low in GBP, it represents a +2.95% monthly hike as Western firms shift complex R&D to Maharashtra.

  • The Contractor Surge: You will notice that Day Rate Change % (e.g., +6.13% for 3rd Line) is significantly outstripping annual salary increases. This indicates that Mumbai is being used for “Surgical Technical Strikes”—high-impact, short-term contract roles to stabilize infrastructure ahead of AI rollouts.

  • Architecture & Security Dominance: The Security Architect has become the highest-valued non-leadership role in Mumbai, reaching a day rate of ₹38,000 (£311). This is driven by the 2026 “Autonomous Security” mandates coming from global financial hubs, with Mumbai providing the 24/7 engineering backbone.

  • The “Support Floor”: 1st Line roles in Mumbai remain incredibly cost-effective for UK firms, with a median of £8,300 (approx. ₹10.2 Lakhs). This allows for 24/7 “Follow-the-Sun” support models at a fraction of the cost of a single UK-based night shift.

  • The dual-currency format (£/₹) and used a current exchange rate of £1 = ₹122.7.
