Staff Appointments

Permanent placements growth eases
Our London office registered an eighth consecutive monthly rise in the number of candidates placed into permanent positions during June.  That said the rate of growth eased substantially from May’s near two-year high and was modest overall.  The rate of increase was the weakest of all the UK regions.

Contract billings growth quickens
June saw a further rise in contract billings, the eleventh in as many months.  Moreover, the rate of growth accelerated to a 14-month peak and continued to outstrip the UK average.

Staff Availability

Permanent candidate supply declines
The amount of candidates placed into permanent positions in the capital increased in September, following a marginal reduction at the end of the third quarter. Moreover, the rate of expansion
was the most marked since May and slightly faster than the long-run series average.

Drop in contract labour supply continues
The number of people available for contract roles in the capital also fell at the start of the fourth quarter. Moreover, the rate of decline quickened from September and was the sharpest recorded in 22 months. Out of the five monitored regions, only the Midlands recorded a sharper drop in contract labour supply in the latest survey period.

Remuneration

Permanent salaries
Salaries awarded to permanent starters in London increased in September, as has been the case in each month since May 2013. The rate of salary inflation eased from August but nonetheless remained marked overall. That said, the pace of pay growth in the capital was the weakest of all five monitored UK regions.

Contract pay rates
Contract pay also increased in the capital during September, stretching the current sequence of inflation to 13 months. Despite softening from August, the rate of growth was sharper than that seen across the UK as a whole.
