Permanent candidate supply declines at steeper pace
Recruitment consultants based in the capital registered a fourth consecutive monthly rise in the amount of candidates placed into permanent positions during January. The rate of expansion quickened from December and moved above the long-run series average. That said, growth continued to lag behind that seen at the UK level. 

Contract candidate numbers fall at a slower rate
Contract billings also rose during January, thereby extending the current period of expansion to a year-and-a-half. The rate of growth eased from the previous month but remained marked and above the UK average.

Staff Availability

Permanent candidate supply drops 
The number of candidates available for permanent positions in the capital declined for the fifty-sixth time in as many months during January. Furthermore, the rate of deterioration accelerated to the sharpest since September last year. Permanent candidate numbers also fell across the UK as a whole, and at a faster rate than seen in London.

Contract candidate numbers fall at softer rate
Recruitment consultancies in London recorded a further drop in the number of candidates available for temporary positions at the start of the year. That said, the rate of decline was the weakest in over a year and softer than the UK average.

Remuneration

Permanent salaries
Salaries awarded to permanent starters in London increased to the sharpest extent since May 2015 at the start of the year. That said, the rate of inflation remained softer than seen across the UK as a whole. Average starting salaries for permanent jobs in the capital have increased on a month-on month basis for over four-and-a-half years..

Contract pay rates
Average wages awarded to contract workers in the capital rose in January, thereby continuing a trend that has been evident since October 2016. That said, the rate of inflation eased to a ten-month low and was weaker than the UK average.
