This is an unusual opportunity for an experienced IT Infrastructure professional to become an integral part of the Digital Policing Department within the Metropolitan Police. This highly sought-after position will have real-world effects, helping to protect the lives and communities of everyone in London. You will work to manage the service infrastructure, both physical and cloud-based, across the entire Metropolitan Police Service.
As the Senior Wintel Engineer, you take the lead on identifying and solving issues with Windows technologies, VMWare, and Exchange included. You will maintain and upgrade the enterprise stack and be the main port of call for all 3rd line technical support whilst monitoring technologies across the board to ensure smooth business system performance. You will be expected to provide technical expertise to major system project work and take the lead on all virtualisation.
Responsibilities will include proactive RCA of server related performance issues, general system configuration, backups, maintenance, optimisation of server and network infrastructure, management and configuration of network hardware and software, and serve as a mentor for more junior staff.
The Required Skills and Experiences
The successful Senior Wintel Engineer will be a subject matter expert in virtualisation including virtual systems backups, maintenance, capacity planning, and monitoring operational tasks. Your expertise will include:
-Windows systems, MS Hypervisor technologies such as VMWare/Vsphere and be adept in authentication methods and Cisco support.
– Creating and maintaining network environments and knowledgeable in Powershell/Perl.
– Enterprise backup solutions such as Symantec Netbackup and have previous experience of best networking practises for a multiple data centre environment.
– Cisco hardware, Juniper Firewalls and other networking hardware
– Red Hat Linux, Enterprise storage systems and technologies such as Pure/VNX and experience with monitoring tools Solarwinds/ATA/SCOM/SCCM
– An ITIL environment and multi-vendor management
