Counter offers are now at pandemic levels, companies are recognising the cost of replacing staff especially if they are already below headcount and will go out of their way to try and keep them. If a candidate you are interviewing is currently in a role expect them to receive a counter offer. At Langley James we cater for this and ensure the candidates we put forward are motivated to actually change their roles even if they are counter offered before we submit them.
Key Points on the London recruitment market
- Permanent placements rise at softer pace…
- ….but growth of contract billings picks up from March’s 13 month low
- Starting salaries and contract rates both increase markedly
Permanent candidate supply declines at steeper pace
It has been the seventh successive rise in the amount of people placed into permanent positions in the Capital during last month (April). The rate of expansion, however eased from the previous month and was weaker than the rest of the UK as an average.
Contract candidate numbers fall at a slower rate
The amount of Contract role filled rose at the start of the second quarter, continuing a trend that has been observed since August 2016. However, the rate of growth accelerated from March’s 13-month low, but remained weaker than the UK average.
Permanent candidate supply drops again
The number of candidates available to fill permanent positions in London declined in April, thereby continuing a trend that has been observed since June 2013. The rate of deterioration accelerated from the prior month and was marked overall, albeit weaker than that seen across the UK as a whole.
Contract candidate numbers fall at a steeper rate
The supply of Contractors in the capital fell for the fifty seventh consecutive month during April. Moreover, the rate of decrease was the steepest of the year so far and sharper than the UK average.
Salaries awarded to permanent starters in London rose during the latest survey period, thereby extending the current period of growth to just shy of five years. The rate of inflation quickened from March, but remained below that seen at the UK level.
Contract pay rates
Contractor rates in London rose for the nineteenth time in as many months during April. The rate of inflation was unchanged from March’s 37-month peak, and only marginally weaker than the UK average
